Whatever is going on right now, the only way out is softness.
Whatever brings you back to this softness is worth trusting. Whoever you have to stop being in order to embody it - is the right self to let go of. Because whatever you have to loosen your grip on to find it again is not the thing that is saving you.
Maybe we will never arrive at a final understanding. Maybe the knot will never come undone, not all the way. So begin here, now, with yourself. With the things that are yet to take shape, with the longings that walk wilder paths to find you. With others who remain, despite our certainty, astoundingly mysterious.
Be soft and lean in - to the hand that is already here, open and waiting for you. To the flower wilting and folding back to the earth - asking for just one last witness of its beauty. To the warmth in your chest, beneath your hand that was once sunlight. It has travelled across billions of years to become this very moment inside you.
You don’t have to be more grateful or more spiritual or more disciplined to be met by life. It has been offering itself all along, over and over through an indivisible relationship that has not once held you apart from the whole.
But when there is always a seemingly solid and separate “someone” standing guard at the door, deciding on what is liked and unliked, what is good and not good, what is spiritual and unholy - how will life ever find us? How will we discover that it’s been here all along?

I absolutely loved the first line of this...the only way out is softness...nothing could be more true. I can stand on principal and my version of "right" and dig myself deeper into misery or I can soften and perhaps see something different than my version...I contemplated the "who do I have to stop being" question all day yesterday and I haven't come up with something concrete but I am open to feeling my way there one day at a time. Thank you Sez...as always, you seem to know what my heart needs before I do!
