There are many ways to maintain peace.
And all of them are exhausting.
If we need to maintain something, we must keep it up - like treading water to maintain buoyancy or feeding our ill-fated indoor plants to maintain life.
When peace becomes a sincere desire, it’s normal to believe we need to maintain it once we’ve found it, in order to keep it from disappearing.
This is how we live; treading the waters of spiritual practice, physical exercise, nature, and even our own thoughts in order to keep our sense of peace here.
There’s nothing wrong with these activities but when we cannot be at peace without them, when we believe they contain the peace we seek, we have forgotten something quite vital about who we are…
